Ice Dam Restoration

The Challenge

After an ice dam caused extensive water damage, this home’s entire first floor—kitchen, dining room, family room, and foyer—needed major restoration. Rather than simply returning the space to its original state, the homeowners saw an opportunity to reimagine their layout and design. They turned to DRR Contracting to navigate the insurance process and lead a full-scale renovation blending functionality with elevated aesthetics.

The Approach

DRR’s priority was to protect the client’s investment while eliminating stress from the recovery process. We worked hand-in-hand with the insurance company to ensure the project was fully funded and accurately scoped. Once the foundation was in place, we took a collaborative, design-forward approach—bringing the homeowners' vision to life with thoughtful updates that improved the space’s layout, lighting, and flow

Craftsmanship in Action

  • Coordinated with the insurance provider to document damage and secure necessary funding

  • Demolished damaged areas down to the studs to begin with a clean slate

  • Rebuilt and redesigned the kitchen with custom cabinetry, a large center island, and upgraded appliances

  • Installed new hardwood floors throughout the first level to unify the space

  • Updated the dining room with paneled wainscoting, deep accent colors, and new lighting

  • Reimagined the foyer with fresh millwork, modern fixtures, and a welcoming palette

  • Enhanced the family room’s connectivity with the rest of the home while preserving comfort and coziness

The Results

The finished renovation transformed a dated, segmented layout into a cohesive and modern space that’s both beautiful and highly functional. By turning a water damage emergency into a full design opportunity, the homeowners now enjoy a brighter, more inviting first floor with improved storage, better sightlines, and refined details at every turn. The result is a home that not only meets their needs, but exceeds them.
